This rear garden was a blank rectangle of grass, often waterlogged in the winter.

The new design incorporates raised beds surrounding an elevated patio, trellis panels and a curved border.

 

The patio beds have been planted and in time should produce a dense screen of trees and shrubs: a cosy sun-filled arbour. Raising the patio and creating new beds will overcome the waterlogging, and trees and shrubs will increase the privacy of this previously open garden.

 

Access was extremely limited in this rear garden so all materials had to be wheelbarrowed in and out. The plants have been carefully chosen to encourage bird and insect life.
