Stone alcove I

The rear garden of this newly-built house was a rather uninspiring slope of grass.

It does catch a lot of evening sun, so a decked seating area set in a dry-stone alcove became the central feature, using several tonnes of Tarradale sandstone.

Ballachulish slate forms the edging for the borders, and these in turn have been planted with a selection of shrubs and trees to add structure and soften the hard edges.

Two delicate and attractive maples flank the alcove, with a backdrop of trellis-bound honeysuckle and jasmine.
