Hamish's circle

In contrast to many of the projects YourLandscaping works on, the client in this instance had a very clear idea of the desired outcome, but needed the expertise in order to complete the project.

The client wished to build a circular stone seating area on which to enjoy the spectacular views south-westwards to Loch Ness. There was plentiful stone on site, and slate slabs for the paving came from a nearby dismantled farmbuilding. The trick was to rationalise large rectangular slate slabs with the shape of a circle. This was neatly achieved by cutting the slabs diagonally and bringing all of the resulting triangular pieces into a central focus point.

The stress was on keeping the stonework ‘rustic’ and in keeping with the cottage. The large slab steps were staggered and the drystone walls built from a mix of stone just as the cottage had been.
